Mike Harbar

mharbar
Mike is English born and bred and is passionate about cars and drawing them. Since moving to Australia in 2000, Mike has continued his work as a freelance car-artist with numerous satisfied customers world-wide, producing commissioned artwork for magazines, car specialists, club events and private enthusiasts.

Having an industrial design background and been a member of the UK Guild of Motoring Artists and now the Australian Automotive Artists, Mike understands every aspect from the technical engineering to the artistic flowing lines. This is very apparent when you see the accuracy and detail he has produced, just by using lead pencil and water colour.

His repertoire is varied, ranging from Aussie muscle cars and racing machines to classics from his homeland. "My favourite subjects are Aston Martin and Jaguar but Bugatti and Bentley are up there as well. Really any classic car with a gorgeous line which just has to be drawn," says Harbar. But since landing Down Under, Harbar has fallen in love with Phase III Falcons, Toranas, Monaros and many of the other classic Aussie racing legends that pounded the blacktop at Bathurst, Sandown and Phillip Island. Recently he has produced a unique series of Bathurst workshop and pitstop scenes with the support of Aussie racing legends Harry Fitch (who mentored the late Peter Brock) and Allan Moffat.

"I get a lot of discreet calls from wives and girlfriends," grins Harbar. But it's for commissions I beg to add. "For a special commission I mainly work from photos so customers can send me a picture and I can work from that. The cost depends on the amount of detail and time involved."
