Bob Darroch

Brought up in Dunedin and Alexandra, Bob's family moved to South Canterbury and he attended high school there, before leaving to embark on a career with the Herald. During this time his fan base grew and his cartoons often featured in the sports section of the Herald, without pay – but says every time one appeared, the phone would ring with some other work. Handling advertising bookings also put Bob in an ideal position to exercise his artistic talents. "Newspapers still didn't employ artists, so because I could scribble a bit, I picked up the odd job that came in when people would come to my desk to book their ads inturn leading to freelance work. These days, settled in Temuka, Bob has taken to childrens illustrations and drawings to complement his artistic talents.
